Abstract
The article dwells upon a relatively unknown historical fact – the influence of the WW I on the expansion of non-medical use of narcotic drugs in Russia and the West. Address The issue of the creation of non-addictive analgesics is considered. The thesis of the prohibition as a reason for the intensive growth of drug use is refuted.
